Temperament, Simplicity, Strength, Tenacity

Chinese Culture University (CCU) was founded in 1962. The founder of CCU, Prof. Dr. Chang Chi-Yun, laid out the founding ideals of CCU: “Seek true knowledge incessantly and always endeavor to do still better” and “to inherit the best that the East and the West has to offer; to absorb the essence of Chinese and Foreign Cultures”. He also set the guiding spirit of the University: “temperament, simplicity, strength and tenacity”, underlining the importance of a student’s mindful awareness of the significance of education and social responsibility in life.

In its five decades as an institution of higher learning, the University has experienced vigorous growth and has played an academic leading role, culturally and professionally, in the forefront among Taiwan universities. As of 2014, the university comprises 12 colleges with 61 departments, 43 masters programs and 12 PhD programs, which make CCU one of the biggest universities in Taiwan. Some departments have become the main sources of specialized manpower to the society, i.e. by supplying up to 70% of graduates to governmental institutes. A traditionally strong field of education at CCU remains the Chinese Culture program including Chinese Opera, Chinese Music, Dance and Martial Arts. Prestigious faculty members, well-known as “Masters” in Taiwan, continue to win CCU’s Culture program nationwide fame.

Interdisciplinary and inter-departmental curricular collaboration is highly recommended and emphasized as an academic policy at CCU. Among others, a variety of cross-disciplines courses among the liberal arts, design, information, communication, advertising and marketing exists. In accordance with meeting the demands of the globalized community, CCU ambitiously meets this growing trend by relentlessly creating and establishing new attractive and innovative study programs.
