The University library, named “Hsiao-Feng Memorial Library”
after Dr. Chang Chi-yun, founder of CCU, is a structure with state-of-the-art
facilities and equipment. It houses nearly one million volumes and over 5,000
Chinese and foreign periodicals. One can surf the World Wide Website to consult
the information stored in the online and CD data banks. Besides cozy reading
and study rooms, there are discussion and research quarters as well. Portable
laptop computers for consulting and transmitting data are readily available.
In the multi-media center on the seventh floor, one can transmit data into
audio-visual discs, DVDs, and VCDs via the VOD system. In addition to updating
periodicals and publications, the library also provides inter-library services,
transmitting information from libraries both home and abroad. It strives to
achieve the goals of information modernization and information without national

The Hwa Kang Museum
Established in 1971, the university museum, also called the Hwa Kang Museum
is the first comprehensive museum of its kind in Taiwan. Its permanent collection
consists of Chinese ceramics from the many centuries, modern Chinese paintings
and calligraphic works, Chinese folk arts and woodblock prints. Besides its
permanent display, the museum additionally holds regular invitational, group
and solo exhibitions. Educational and promotional activities include lectures,
tours and conferences on special subjects and themes, classes on the arts,
folk arts, and handicrafts, and activities that help promote the advancement
of cultural and artistic life in the community. Assistance, when requested,
is also extended to other museums and academic institutions. ▲top
The center provides computer instruction, computer knowledge and facilities to its faculty and students for academic research and other uses of a more practical nature. It integrates information, communication, and videoconference to promote the quality of computer education and services to meet the demands of the present information age. It provides computer classrooms for instruction as well as multi-media and global science classrooms to serve various purposes of research and pedagogy. It also provides multi-language, digital, visual, videoconference and multi-media services. In addition to a campus network, it has links to other academic networks in Taiwan and worldwide to provide teachers and students instant and adequate global information. ▲top
The Teacher-Training Curriculum Center
The Center aims at training future teachers for pre-school and secondary schools, with a focus on formulating professional devotion and problem solving abilities. It provides both pre-school and secondary school teacher-training courses. Based on the departments and teachers the university now has available, these two types of curriculum are sub-divided into ten specialized fields, namely the Chinese Language, Natural Sciences, History, Geography, Music, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Home Economics, Commerce, and Industry. The Center provides both theoretical and practical disciplines to prepare quality teachers. ▲top
The Language Center aims at cultivating students’ interests in learning and proficiency in foreign languages. It provides eleven language laboratories for instruction. Each classroom has multi-media equipment for effective language learning. The Center holds chatting-time sessions for small groups of students to converse with English teachers. It also holds annual speech and skit contests to help students sharpen their speech communicative skills. Other activities the Center has held to help generate students’ abilities in English and other foreign languages include a Question-and-Answer Column, Movie Time, and other language learning tutorials. ▲top
School of Continuing Education
The School of Continuing Education provides the important service of life-long learning to the society as a means to help its learners acquire up-to-date knowledge and skills. It provides a wide number of courses and programs that disclose endless channels for learning. For instance, there are bachelor-degree-oriented courses, two-year on-the-job technical courses, two-year on-the-job specialized courses, and on-the-job master-degree-oriented courses. Graduate school courses are offered to meet the needs of high-ranking company officers. Various theoretical and practical courses on a large number of topics are given on a monthly basis. There are in addition online courses that integrate computer technology and media art. Distance education has been extensively put in place for independent learning unlimited by time and space. There are courses for enriching professional theories, for gaining second specialization technical licenses, for spiritual enrichment, and for leisurely purposes. There is in fact almost any variety of courses for everyone, young and old, male and female.
The Department has co-sponsored various public and international workshops and conferences related to government and business institutions. The topics range from the newest technological know-how to industrial, business, financial and economic affairs, and from life and health, which is a favorite among elderly learners, to social welfare and many other real-life topics. Self-initiative learning is thus encouraged through the sharing of experiences from professionals willing to aid any student—young or old—in greeting an era signified by perpetual growth. ▲top
