The College of Liberal Arts consists of three departments:
Philosophy, Chinese Literature (divided into the Classic and Modern Sections)
and History. Each of the departments has graduate programs leading to a Masters
or Doctorate degree. The educational goal of the college is to cultivate in
the students a humanistic spirit and knowledge in the humanities through a
balanced teaching program stressing both classic and modern learning and Chinese
and Western studies.

of Foreign Languages
The College of Foreign Languages is comprised of a language
center and six separate language and literature departments in Japanese, Korean,
Russian, English, French, and German. Besides instructors hired locally, its
faculties also consist of native-language speaking professors invited from
overseas with expertise in language, linguistics and literature. In addition
to developing practical language skills, students are also exposed to foreign
cultures through intensive linguistics and literary studies, which include
critical theory as well. In order to enhance their language abilities and
understanding of these cultures, students in their sophomore, junior, and
senior years are encouraged and given the opportunity to travel abroad during
a year abroad for further studies. There are Master’s degree programs in all
the departments, and a Doctorate program is offered by the Russian Department.
