The College of Internatiaonl Studies and Foreign Languages is comprised of a language center and six separate language and literature departments in Japanese, Korean, Russian, English, French, and German. Besides instructors hired locally, its faculties also consist of native-language speaking professors invited from overseas with expertise in language, linguistics and literature. In addition to developing practical language skills, students are also exposed to foreign cultures through intensive linguistics and literary studies, which include critical theory as well. In order to enhance their language abilities and understanding of these cultures, students in their sophomore, junior, and senior years are encouraged and given the opportunity to travel abroad during a year abroad for further studies. There are Master’s degree programs in all the departments, and a Doctorate program is offered by the Russian Department.
